Forging personal beliefs and sense of values and maturing them for prudence, wise thinking, and sound judgment must be crucial. In contrast to the conventional mode of college EFL education anchored in linguistic and communicative competencies as well as in instrumental and utilitarian orientations, this book challenges the identification of what ""Self-Maturity and Language Maturity (Twin Maturities) ""really mean by drawing on an interdisciplinary research scope (i.e., weighing higher education, character education, foreign language education, ethics, morality, spirituality, public philosophy, etc.). It also introduces relevant teaching methods and classroom-based practice (EFL education) in use at a Japanese university, followed by twin maturities-aimed textbook development.

  • 2023年12月に発売し大好評を博した『勇気と覚悟ーー視覚障害学生の実験教育における技術支援』の英語版。
    　2019年4月、早稲田大学 先進理工学部に一人の全盲の学生が入学した。小学2年生の時に全盲となった彼女は、筑波大学附属視覚特別支援学校中学部、都立高校を経て、早稲田大学を受験。みごと現役合格を果たしたのである。
    　はたしてどのようにすれば、全盲の学生に大学の実験科目を履修してもらうことが可能なのか。この課題に中心となって対応したのが、早稲田大学 理工学術院統合事務・技術センターの技術職員たちであった。つねに彼女に寄り添いながら、学内外のステークホルダーたちを巻き込みつつ、高等教育機関として実験科目を通じて彼女に何を伝えるべきか、という根本的な問題意識の下に奔走した彼ら。その現場からの報告。

    1975年にABCレコードから発売されたスティーリー・ダンの4枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『ケイティ・ライド』は、ゴールドセラーに認定され、全米チャートで13位を記録した。また、シングル「ブラック・フライデー」は37位にチャートインした。

    本作は、ベッカーとフェイゲンが当時最新だったDBXノイズリダクション・システムの不具合により、当初はアルバムの音質に不満を持っていたことが特徴である。DBXのエンジニアと協力して音質を改善し、最終的にアルバムは成功したが、フェイゲンとベッカーは完成版を聴くことを拒否していた。

    本作はまた、スティーリー・ダンのアルバムにシンガーのマイケル・マクドナルドが初めて参加した作品でもある。ドゥービー・ブラザーズのメンバーとしてのソウルフルな歌声で知られるマクドナルドは、グラミー賞を5回受賞し、2020年にはドゥービー・ブラザーズのメンバーとしてロックの殿堂入りを果たした。

    アルバム・ジャケットには、コオロギやバッタに関係する「歌う」(STRIDULATING)昆虫であるキリギリスの写真が使われている。これはアルバム・タイトルをもじったもので、キリギリスの「歌声」は、まるで「ケイティはやった、ケイティはやらなかった」と言っているように聞こえる。「ドクター・ウー」という曲の歌詞には、「ケイティはやってみた、私は半分はりついた、ケイティは嘘をつく、目を見ればわかる」といった表現がある。ケイティが「嘘をつく」というテーマの前提には、デニー・ディアスが"Your Gold Teeth II"で演奏するためにスタジオに来たときの言葉があるそう。当時まだ21歳だったジェフ・ポーカロは、伝説のセッション・ドラマー、ハル・ブレインをフィーチャーした"Any World (That I'm Welcome To)"以外の全曲でドラムを叩いている。
