ベル・アンド・セバスチャンのスチュワート・マードックが2009年に 発表したソロ・アルバム『GOD HELP THE GIRL』。その映画化作品のサウンドトラックが登場した。
ソロ・アルバムを原作としたこのポップなミュージカル映画の脚本、監督を務めるのは、スチュワート・マードック。勿論、サウンドトラックも彼が手掛けている。二人の女に一人の男に起こるひと夏の出来事を、ベルセバの地元でもあるグラスゴーを思わせる街を舞台に描くこの作品に出演するのは、エミリー・ブラウニング、オリー・アレクサンデル、ハンナ・マリーほか。
スチュワート・マードックが脚本、監督となれば、音楽が映画の中心になることは容易に想像できるだろう。ベル・アンド・セバスチャン時代のサウンドを彷彿させるサウンドにのるのは、少しレトロで、ポップでファッショナブルな映像と主人公たち。作品に流れる「ポップミュージックが一人の女の子の人生を救えるか」というテーマはすなわち、素晴らしいポップ・ミュージカルが出来るまでの過程を追った作品でもあり、楽しくてせつない、そんな彼と彼女たちの心模様にも、スチュワートの音楽がぴったりと寄り添っている。
サンダンス映画祭で審査員特別賞を受賞した本作、あいにくと日本公開はまだ未定だが、全てのベルセバ・ファン、渋谷系ファッションや音楽に夢中だった人なら、きっと心に響くはず！

マニックス史上、最も内省的、かつファンの間で最高傑作との呼び声が高い3作目『The Holy Bible』の20周年記念エディション
1994年にリリースされたマニックス史上、最も内省的な3作目と言われる『The Holy Bible』。前作のサウンドから大きな変化を遂げており、英日ともに賛否両論を巻き起こした問題作と呼ばれているが、憂いを超えた悲壮感や疎外感を凄まじいまでのエネルギーに転換/凝縮された楽曲はまさしく"鋭利"であって、その鋭さと傷の深さ故に“早すぎた超名盤”と呼ばれるようになった。あまりにもピュア過ぎた詩人リッチー・ジェイムスは、本作発表後、自らの無様な自傷行為やアルコール依存などをメディア上に曝け出した後、一時的なバンド復帰を経たが、アメリカ・ツアー出発前夜（95年2月1日）に失踪し、行方不明のまま現在に至っている。この20周年記念エディションでは、リマスター音源をLPとCDに収録。またにはUS Mixのリマスター音源を、には『The Holy Bible』からシングル・カットされた「Faster」「Revol」「She Is Suffering」のカップリングを収録しており、「Revol」にスポークン・ワーズが入った未発表音源も収録されている。そして今回注目なのが、ライブ音源を収録した。前半の1994年12月に収録されたBBC InConcertは、リッチー失踪のわずか1ヶ月半前に収録されており、リッチーのプレイを偲ぶことができる。後半のRadio 4 Mastertapesは今年収録されたもので、リッチーというかけがえのない存在を失いながらも、以降現在に至るまでUKの“国宝級”バンドとして20年間駆け抜けてきたマニックスを象徴するかのような内容だ。12インチサイズ40ページブックレット付き。ブックレットも、レア写真やリッチーの手書き歌詞など見どころ満載だ。
