ACTの看板企画“Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic”シリーズ第9弾！ 今回リーダーでありACTを代表するピアニストのイーロ・ランタラは、本企画第1弾から登場し、今回で4回目となる。
　本作のテーマは、セロニアス・モンク作曲“パノニカ”やホレス・シルバー作曲“ニカズ・ドリーム”など、多くの名曲のモデルとなっている、ジャズ界の伝説的な後援者“Jazz Baroness (ジャズ男爵夫人)” パノニカ・ドゥ・コーニグズウォーターへのトリビュート作。パノニカと関わりの深かったミュージシャンの楽曲を取り扱っている。
　本作には、セロニアス・モンクと共演したこともあるというベテラン・サックス奏者アーニー・ワッツが参加！ 他、E.S.T.のベーシストであったDan Berglund、曲によりNY のヴォーカル、Charenee Wadeなどが参加。
　1曲目はパノニカがジャズ・ミュージシャンを支援するきっかけになったと言われている“ラウンド・ミッドナイト”から。古き良きジャズの匂いが漂うジャジーなヴォーカルとアメリカンなアーニー・ワッツのサックスに、北欧的で繊細なリズム隊が音楽的に絡み合う好演。2曲目“Boliviar Blues”では豪快に吹きまくるアーニー・ワッツに触発されてか、ブルージーに力強く弾くイーロ・ランタラ、続くポーランド出身の女性アルト・サックス奏者Angelika Niescierの野性味溢れるブロウで一気に盛り上がる。曲終盤のサックス2本の掛け合いも聴き応えあり！ ピアノ・トリオで小気味よくスウィングする5曲目、“パノニカ”にジョン・ヘンドリックスにより歌詞が付けられた“Little Butterfly”など、どのトラックもジャズ巨人達へのリスペクトに溢れた快演。
　ジャズの伝統と現代の感性、アメリカとヨーロッパの音楽的要素が見事にブレンドされた素晴らしいコンサートの記録である。（輸入元情報）
