★女性トランペッター＆ジャズ・シンガーとして世界から注目されるアンドレア・モティス。ビッグバンドとコラボしたラテン調の一枚が登場だ。

★スペイン、バルセロナ出身。7歳からトランペットを学び始め、サン・アンドレウ市立音楽学校でジョアン・チャモロに師事し、ジャズを学ぶ。2012年スペインで行なわれたジャズ祭でクインシー・ジョーンズにステージに挙げられたことがきっかけで注目の存在に。2017年には世界デビュー作『エモーショナル・ダンス』を発表。シンガーとしてはスペイン語、カタルーニャ語、ポルトガル語をキュートに操り、トランペットを吹けばそのしなやかな調べで聴くものを魅了。20代半ばにして、すでにスペインのみならず世界のジャズ界のスーパースターとなった。

★2021年春、WDRビッグバンドとのコラボレーションが実現した。アンドレア・モティスがほとんどの曲を提供し、ビッグバンドのリーダー、マイク・モスマンが指揮、全曲のアレンジを担当。雰囲気のあるラテン系のアルバムに仕上がった。かのアストラッド・ジルベルトを彷彿とさせるチャーミングな歌声とノリの良いビックバンドのグルーヴが相まって、夢見るような心地よい雰囲気を作り出している。

今回はヨーロッパととりわけゆかりの深い人気ミュージシャンたちのカップリングです。冒頭は1971年のサヒブ・シハブ。ケニー・クラーク＝フランシー・ボラーン楽団在籍中の、貴重なワン・ホーン・プレイです。深みのあるバリトン・サックスの音は、まさに絶品。M-3,4はアート・ファーマーの1977年の演奏。フュージョン的なレコーディングを行なっていた頃ですが、当ライブではハード・バップ・スピリットが炸裂しています。最後の3曲は、クリフォード・ジョーダンの1970年のパフォーマンス。名盤『イン・ザ・ワールド』とほぼ同時期の、熱の入ったパフォーマンスが聴けます。(jazzyellより）
